Ponchatoula LA lies at the north west corner of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin where two interstates intersect. I-12 and I-55 which are two heavily traveled interstates. I-12 is actually a bypass of I-10 that goes through New Orleans. Ponchatoula LA Historic District known as America’s Antique City is just 2 miles east of Interstate 55 and a couple of miles south south of Interstate 12.
The old downtown of Ponchatoula is make up of restored historic building of which many have been turned into antique shops. If you are serious about collecting antiques then you owe it to yourself to make this stop to America’s Antique City. the old train station has been turned into an antique mall with many vendors and all sorts of antiques. You will also find several nice places to eat that tend to have that taste of New Orleans.
There are also several new hotels in the area making the Ponchatoula, Hammond LA area a great place to make this your home base while vacationing in SE Louisiana. There is also an alligator farm and swamp rides nearby.
