The biggest free festival in Louisiana, the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is the celebration of this luscious, ripe, mouthwatering state fruit and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the farmers within the region. Held between 10 – 12th April, 2015, this year will commemorate the 44th Annual Strawberry Festival. It was started in 1971 and has since attracted young and old alike to its delicious charms. It has become a tradition in Louisiana as the entire city of Ponchatoula immerses in the annual festivities. It originally started as a small non-profit event, but has since come a long way. With its increase in popularity, the festival also saw the introduction of varied sources of entertainment. Today, the festival celebrates the strawberry with laughter inducing events like eating competitions, amusement rides and live performances. It also features arts and crafts stalls for those with a more creative bent of mind.
